When we talk about health, we all have our own personal army that serves as our defenders in our war against foreign invaders, that have the potential to wreak havoc on our health. Our immune system carries out its life-saving duties without any conscious effort from us. However, to perform its essential role efficiently, it does need some support. More to the point, it requires that our actions do not undermine its ability to function at its best.

If we don’t treat our bodies well, our immune system’s ability to function may be less than optimal, making us potentially more vulnerable to the attacks of pathogens and disease-causing microbes. Being exposed to cold weather may not make you sick. But, there is a possibility that you will be able to pick up some colds or flu from the people around you if your immune system is not functioning at its best. If you find yourself frequently catching colds or flu then your immune system might need a boost.

Normally, adults may experience colds two to three times every season, with the worst of the symptoms potentially lasting for only up to 4 days. If your colds persist for a week or more then it may be time to review your diet and stress levels.

Allergic attacks may happen and could change depending on the season. If your allergic attacks become frequent and extreme then this could be a tell-tale sign that your immune system is not coping.

As it is hard to avoid the first in many cases, it is important to maintain a healthy and strong immune system, to potentially prevent your body being in an environment conducive to attack.
